WEED CONTROL SERVICE

Whelehan’s have been involved in supplying a weed control service to county councils and local authorities for many years now. We can deliver an excellent professional service to meet your requirements. We are involved in all aspects of weed spraying form total weed control for towns and villages, selective weed control in parks and amenity areas along with the control of invasive weed species.

All our operators, coming from a horticultural background are fully qualified and trained in the application of herbicides. Traffic management plans can also be provided where needed along with operators trained in sign, lighting and guarding.

We continue to work closely with local authorities and other bodies to promote best practice when it comes to weed control and to highlight and promote the awareness of invasive weed species and their threat to the local environment.

TOTAL AND SELECTIVE WEED CONTROL

Weed spraying on paths and roads throughout towns and villages can be provided. Our trained operators will use backpack applicators in built up areas or town centres, while outlying areas can be rapidly complete by using sprayers fitted to quads.
Spraying of parks, playing pitches and amenity areas will eliminate unwanted weeds in grass areas leaving them weed free and easier to manage.

INVASIVE WEED CONTROL

Invasive, non-native plants like Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed and Himalayan Balsam are spreading and becoming more of a problem here in Ireland. Japanese knotweed can spread rapidly to form dense stands, excluding native vegetation, reducing species diversity and altering the habitat for wildlife. Once stands become established, they are extremely persistent and difficult to remove. It is also of concern to developers and private citizens. This plant has the ability to grow through tarmac and concrete (in some cases within dwellings) and therefore must be cleared completely before starting to build or lay roads.

Our specialist weed control management team, can provide a tailor made eradication programme for the control of these invasive weeds.

An on-site survey will be provided to identify the target species, estimate the extent of the infestation and to accurately access the treatment required to eliminate the infestation. Whelehan’s can provide mapping and photographic records also, and by using the most recent application techniques, the newest chemistry and latest scientific research available can provide a written report detailing this information and provide a full recommendation and programme of control required to eliminate the invasive plant species.
